It was 25 years ago when Michael Jackson's Thriller arrived on the music scene and thrust Michael into solo pop stardom. Today marks the release of Thriller 25, an up-to-date version of the classic album with appearances from today's mega-stars Kanye West, Fergie, will.i.am, and Akon. A special dvd is also included in the release featuring the videos for Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It and a special performance from the NBC special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever. Michael Jackson continues to blow up radio airwaves and now the question is, can this album be as big of a success as the original?
I am very surprised that I didn't hear more about this release prior to today. With a legend as big as Michael Jackson, I would think that there would have been major advertisements on television announcing the upcoming release. Either way, I will go get a copy for myself!
The question that I ask is this, in what way(s) would you have liked to see the new release promoted? Are you surprised by the way this delux edition was released? Do you think he will have the same success with this album?

If it was not for this blog I would not have known about this big release. I am a little shocked to know that it was not as promoted. Michael Jackson, despite his ways, is a legend so to speak. A part of me thinks that because of all that has happened in his past may have something to do with it. I know that this sounds biased, but it is just a thought. I do have one of his cds and I have definately jammed out to it. I have nothing against Michael Jackson, but it is not something that I would go out and buy.
I am not surprised by that they didn't promote the release of Micheal Jackson's album. His past is probably the reason why the album wasn't greatly promoted like the others. I have seen commericial of the album, but it is not shown a lot on television. I think Micheal Jackson's music is alright, but I would not go out
and get the album.
Im surprised I haven't heard about this. I would have liked to seen it maybe promoted through television. I think then maybe it would more of a bigger release. Maybe if MTV, and some music stations talked about it, it could have been a bigger deal. Regardless, I think that it will sell, its Michael Jackson and theres probably a good chunck of people who have seen it.
Wow! I did not even know he made another album! Due to poor publicity, it probably will not do that well on the charts. Record sells may have a chance to reap a profit when music videos including the feature artist come out on MTV due to the lack of publicity. Because I think that a lot of people would still buy the CD if they knew that it was in stores. Everyone still loves to jam out to the old Michael Jackson days. I work at a gym and his songs still get people going during an aerobics class. His vocals are just so amazing and we all wish we could dance like him. When you got talent like that, people will always want to relive the glory days with you. I hope the album does well.
Andrea-
I liked it. I believe that yes, it could have been advertised in a better way. I mean we are talking to the one and only Michael Jackson. The reason I think they didnt just to conclusions and start going crazy with showing the world that this was coming out may be becuase of the rape trials that happen. To some people, Michael Jackson's reputation might have been ruined, and maybe the advertising agencies might have taken note in that. I enjoyed it!
